Pillars of Health 2 : Nutrition

 Nutrition is a major factor in either maintaining health or losing our health.  Hippocrates, considered the father of medicine, is thought to have said, “Let food be your medicine, and medicine be your food”.  While we know that food isn’t always enough to take care of the numerous diseases that can have significant negative effects on us, it is certainly an important foundation for good health.  For example, cultures that eat mostly plants with some lean proteins tend to have much lower cholesterol levels, and subsequently lower rates of heart disease.  People outside those cultures that adopt similar eating habits can likewise reduce their risk of heart disease.  In the coming days, we’ll talk more about how nutrition affects our health and what we can do to improve our diet habits.
