Exercise and Your Lungs

Next, let’s see our exercise helps our lungs.  Regular exercise improves overall lung function and efficiency, just as it does for the heart.  The lungs are able to move more air in and out in a given period of time after exercising for just 8 weeks.  For people who have already developed COPD from smoking, exercise can likewise show improved airflow.  Furthermore, regular exercise may reduce hospitalizations in people with COPD, and may even slow the progression of the disease.  For those of you who do have known lung problems, check with your doctor before starting your exercise program so he or she can monitor you closely.

Remember: before starting an exercise program, talk with your doctor first.
