Exercise and Your Heart

Exercise is good for the entire body, but it is particularly good for the heart, as regular exercise reduces risk of heart attacks.  It does through exercise-induced adaptations in the heart that lower blood pressure, increase efficiency in the heart, and reduce the risk of abnormal heart rhythms, among other benefits.  This applies to all forms of exercise.  Though there is some debate about whether strength training or aerobic training is better, any difference is likely small, and either type of exercise is far better than not exercising at all.  For some people, particularly those with existing heart disease, you will need to speak with your doctor before starting a new exercise program, but have that conversation and find something to start working your heart!

Remember: before starting an exercise program, talk with your doctor first.
