Exercise and Cholesterol Medication

Cholesterol problems are fairly common, and significantly increase the risk of heart attack and stroke.  To lessen the risks associated with high cholesterol, people are often put on statins.  Statins are generally well-tolerated, but some people have significant problems with muscle soreness.  Intense exercise can exacerbate this, and can also make it difficult to know if the soreness is just from exercise, the statin, or both.  If you are taking a statin and exercising regularly, and have problems with muscle soreness, talk to your doctor to try to figure out what might be going on so you can work out a solution and keep exercising.

Remember: before starting an exercise program, talk with your doctor first.
