Pillars of Health 2 :Different Diets-Plants, Plants, and More Plants

One very important component of our diet is plants. We get a lot of good nutrition from plants, particularly when they are eaten whole, or minimally processed. Vegetarian diets are almost exclusively plant-based, but do allow for some animal products, while a vegan diet is entirely plant-based. These types of diets are effective in reducing risk of diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. They are also helpful in weight loss. A vegan diet can be challenging for some people. I have met patients who were strict vegans and thrived on that diet, and I’ve met some just didn’t feel well until they started adding some animal products back into their diet. If you want to go vegan, give it a shot, but be ready to modify it if necessary.
