Cardiovascular Versus Strength Training

The next thing to consider with exercise has to do with how you want to exercise.  Do you prefer weight training, exercising your heart and lungs more, or doing a mix?  Strength training focuses on moving weight in order to improve the strength and power in our muscles.  This has been shown to reduce the risk of falls, and can help maintain bone density, among other benefits.  Cardiovascular exercise focuses on longer workouts focused on improving cardiovascular fitness.  This includes walking, running, swimming, and cycling.  Both are good ways to exercise, and I don’t think one is inherently better than the other.

Remember: before starting an exercise program, talk with your doctor first.
