Exercise and Cancer

Yes, exercise even helps with cancer.  There have been a number of studies showing these benefits, with the most recent from the United Kingdom.  This looked at what is called “Vigorous Intermittent Lifestyle Physical Activity” (VILPA) and its effect on cancer risk.  VILPA are activities like carrying heavy grocery bags, doing moderate activity cleaning the house, playing active games with children, etc.  People that did just 5 minutes of VILPA each day had a 30% reduction in cancer risk.  It has also been shown that 3 hours of exercise per week can slow prostate cancer progression.

Remember: before starting an exercise program, talk with your doctor first.
