Pillars of Health 6: Avoiding Toxic Exposures: -Part 2 -

Yesterday we began talking about how tobacco use is the single largest preventable cause of death and disease in the United States. In addition to the health problems mentioned yesterday, smoking also increases the risk of diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, reproductive disease, birth complications, cleft lip and palate, and macular degeneration, among other things.  As far as I’m aware, the only health benefit of smoking is in a reduced risk of developing Parkinson’s disease, but don’t take that to be a recommendation for smoking!  Smoking is very hazardous to our health, and it is something that we should avoid.  For those that do smoke, the best thing that can be for their health is to quit smoking, and we’ll talk about that tomorrow.
